From Shanghai to Sydney

After training, I stayed on as an assistant teacher and translator with INSPYA. Soon after, I left my job as a technical writer in Shanghai to volunteer at Swami’'s Yoga Retreat in Sydney. That choice changed my life. It's where I met my husband and where my commitment to yoga deepened completely. It was no longer a side practice. It had become my path.

Innerbloom Was Born

When my mum passed away as I turned 30, it opened up a flood of questions. Why am I here? What is truly meaningful? One morning, it became clear. I could share yoga. That was something real. It felt electric, like everything finally lined up. I've only felt that kind of clarity once before — the morning after marrying my husband.

Built with Our Own Hands

My husband built Innerbloom Yoga from the ground up. He transformed an empty shell into a peaceful sanctuary in the heart of Surfers Paradise. It was his labour of love and the physical expression of both our dreams. Innerbloom is still young, just under two years old, but it's already home to a warm and vibrant community. It's more than a yoga studio. It's a space for people to reconnect with themselves and each other.

A Studio with Its Own Life

I've always loved teaching and connecting with students. But business? That was completely new to me. I made mistakes.

Lots of them. But each one became a turning point. I began to see the studio as a living thing. It breathes, it grows, and it has needs that don't always match mine. My job is to care for both — myself as a human, and Innerbloom as a business.

Lessons I've Learned

Yoga isn't just something you teach — it's something you live. And when you run a business based on yogaq, the practice has to carry over into every part of your work.

I've learned that things don't have to be perfect to be valuable. The most important thing is to begin — with heart, with honesty, and with presence. What matters most is the intention behind your work. When that's strong, people feel it.

Innerbloom wasn't born out of a business plan. It was born from the need to give something meaningful. That's what gives it life.

My Message to Founders

Let your practice guide your decisions. When the business side feels overwhelming, pause and return to presence. Self-doubt will visit. That's normal. But you don't have to fight it. Just observe. Breathe. Stay with it.

You're not here to grind your way into burnout. You're here to build something meaningful, honest, and alive. Let your heart lead. Let your business follow.

Business Takeaways from Purpose Over Plans

Start with why. When you build from meaning, you create something that lasts.

Feel It First

If it doesn't feel aligned in your body, it probably won't work in your business.

Business Is a Practice

Running a studio is no different than stepping onto your mat. It requires presence, discipline, and compassion.

Let the Studio Breathe

Your business will grow its own identity. Respect its rhythm. It's not always the same as yours.

Mistakes Equal Movement

Every stumble teaches. Every failure redirects. The path is messy. And that’s where the magic is.

Business Takeaways

  • Yoga Business Journey Innerbloom was born out of love. When my mum passed away as I turned 30, I was left questioning the meaning and purpose of life. I knew I wanted to offer something positive and meaningful to the world—something of real benefit, something that could genuinely impact people’s lives for the better. One morning, the realisation suddenly hit me: sharing yoga was within my power, and it could be my way of contributing to a better world. The feeling was electric—a surge of clarity and joy. I've only felt that level of certainty twice in my life—the other was the morning after I married my husband. My husband built the studio from scratch, transforming an empty shell into Innerbloom — a peaceful sanctuary in the heart of Surfers Paradise. It was his labour of love, and the physical manifestation of both our dreams. Innerbloom is still young — just under two years old — but it’s growing into a vibrant and loving community. It’s more than a yoga studio; it’s a place where people come to reconnect with themselves and with others. The journey has been incredibly rewarding. I’ve always loved teaching yoga and connecting with my students, but running a business was a completely new path for me. I’ve made many silly mistakes — but what great learning opportunities they’ve been! I now see Innerbloom as a living entity — it breathes, grows, and evolves beyond me. It has its own rhythm and needs, which are not always the same as mine. I’m here to nurture both myself as a person and Innerbloom as a business. That’s been a profound realization for me as both a human and a founder.
