The Birth of Boheme

I started my own classes in surf stores, surf clubs, community halls and warehouse spaces. Then came the opportunity to build Boheme. It all began quite quickly—not without challenge and hard work—but here we stand, 10 years later, and I couldn't be prouder of what we as a team and community have co-created together.

Though my intention was to simply share Yoga, I've had to learn everything else along the way—administration, bookkeeping, marketing, social media, management and leadership. Boheme has constantly shown me where I need to go and grow. That's the importance of a consistent Yoga practice: we can feel those pulls, face challenges as opportunities, and trust ourselves.

Lessons I've Learned

I look back now and realise I really had no idea how to run a business. The first step to starting Boheme was purely heart-led. If I had thought too much about it, I probably wouldn't have started. I just felt I had to doit.

I've learned the most important aspect of any business is the team. How they feel connected to the vision, inspired in their roles and lives, supported and supportive of each other—this is vital. I love what we've created together. I try to support their individual offerings as much as I can.

I've also learned (the hard way) to have really clear boundaries with my time and energy. Especially since becoming a mother, it's important to be fully on when I'm working, and completely off

when I'm with my family. After experiencing burnout and heavy imposter syndrome—teaching wellness while feeling disconnected from my own—I've learned through my practice that life and business reflect me. So I must care for myself and prioritise my practice. When I show up from a nurtured space, the studio feels more in flow.

My Message to Founders

Get really good people around you. Lean into your strengths. Get support for your weaknesses. That's what keeps it sustainable. Today, I'm motivated to mentor women and fellow yogis using the wisdom of Yoga in a personalised way—to elevate their state, lives and businesses. To use Yoga Asana, Pranayama and Meditation as the medicine they truly are.
