Building Something Bigger

I've always had a love for movement. Sports like basketball and rowing were my first passions, but when yoga found me at 18—right as I was entering university—it felt like a homecoming. It didn't just capture my body, it captured my heart.

My teaching journey began in a small city called loannina in Greece. There was nothing grand about it—just me, a space, and a deep love for sharing yoga. But passion has its own kind of momentum. That energy carried me to Bali, where I pursued further training and deepened my teaching.

Eventually, I founded Yoga Union Bali, a yoga school built around high-quality teacher trainings. It wasn't just about creating a program—it was about creating a space where education, personal growth, and connection could live side by side.

Over the past 30 years, I've learned that while business plans and strategies matter, what really sustains a yoga business is intention. You need heart. You need consistency. And you need people who share the same values.

At Yoga Union, the team is everything. The people I work with aren't just colleagues—they are the soul of this mission. I trust them deeply. They bring their own magic, and together, we've built something that impacts lives far beyond our studio walls.

Lessons I've Learned

Running a yoga business over decades teaches you things that no course or book ever could. Some lessons take years to land. Others show up quietly, in the day-to-day moments.

Another truth I've learned: you can’t do this alone. Your people—your team, your community, your students—they're everything. If you're building something lasting, build it with others. Trust them. Invest in them. Listen to them. They'll carry you just as much as you carry them. Finally, no matter how your business grows, never lose touch with why you started. For me, it was always about spreading the love of yoga and making people's lives just a little bit better. That intention is still the center of everything I do.

My Message to Founders

If you're in the early stages of building something, or even if you're years into it but questioning everything—pause and breathe. The growth you're seeking won't always come in big, visible waves. Sometimes it's quiet. Sometimes it looks like nothing's happening. But underneath, things are moving.

Stay in love with the work. Stay present. Don't rush the process. Your energy, your truth, and your care for others will always find the right people.

And remember, your path doesn’t need to look like anyone else's. You're allowed to grow in your own time, in your own way.

Business Takeaways from Start Where You Are

You don't need the perfect studio or the perfect location. Begin with what you have. That small space in loannina was more than enough to launch a global training school.

People Are the Heart

Success doesn’t come from just being a great teacher. It comes from building a team that believes in the same mission and supporting them fully.

Intention Over Perfection

Focus on what you want people to feel. Growth will follow when your purpose is clear and your actions stay aligned with it.

Slow Growth Is Real Growth

It's okay if things don't happen fast. In fact, when they grow slowly, they often last longer. Trust that.

Keep Evolving

Let your business change as you change. From studio classes to trainings to retreats—new seasons bring new opportunities. Stay open.
